EXTRA Fall Season 2013 is underway. Check back frequently for updates and new info. According to AYSO, EXTRA is:
“A progressive player program, designed to provide a more challenging level of play for players who have the interest, skills and abilities and want to enhance their experience and individual growth through soccer while retaining the spirit of and organization membership in AYSO. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program – rather the goal is to strengthen AYSO by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers through providing more competitive play the AYSO way – all EXTRA programs embrace the Six Philosphies of AYSO.” See more at Soccer.org.
This is the third Fall season for EXTRA in our Region and it has been VERY successful. EXTRA is kind of an extension of the Select or All Star programs except it runs year round. Only the most qualified coaches are selected to coach an EXTRA team and players must complete a player evaluation in order to be selected to play on an EXTRA team.
Many of our EXTRA teams have been competing in club tournaments and winning them! Based on my experience and observations I would say that our EXTRA teams are MUCH better than the majority of the Bronze club teams and that a few of our EXTRA teams are comparable to Silver and even Silver Elite club teams.
